Michael Putt

Michael Putt is senior director of Power Delivery project development at Florida Power & Light Company (FPL). He is responsible for the business unit's key strategies to leverage grid technology and artificial intelligence to predict events and automate processes that improve situational awareness.  


Most recently, he was general manager of design and standards for Power Delivery, where his responsibilities included overall direction of the project's philosophy of the company's transmission, substation and distribution facilities including generator interconnections for FPL and NextEra Energy Resources (NEER). He also managed the implementation of four large battery storage projects. 


Since joining FPL in 2000, Mr. Putt has served as a project manager and lead engineer on several of the company's large battery and transmission projects. Previously, in his role as lead engineer, he managed the Seabrook Switchyard Gas Insulated Substation project. 


Prior to joining FPL, Mr. Putt worked as an electrical engineering consultant and director of project development for 12 years serving electric utility and commercial industrial clients in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. 


Mr. Putt earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He is a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer and a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. He is also a member of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation System Protection Subcommittee and Florida Reliability Coordinating Council System Protection Subcommittee. Mr. Putt holds one patent and has published several industry papers for smart grid applications.
